Sustainable Environment and Peace Building

Conscious Business Relationships for the 21st Century
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

Margaret Mead- American Anthropologist

At Sigma International, we are a cross-cultural group of responsible “planetary”citizens with a breadth of life and work experience in both the American and the Chinese cultures, and in their business climates and political sensitivities, we are also well aware that we are at a crossroad in the history of humankind. It is a crossroad that calls out for the best in us individually, collectively, and organizationally. As we have all seen, business is both demonized and praised for the impact it has on the environment and on daily life around the world at this critical time of consciousness shifting. It plays a pivotal role in well-being or destruction, in conscious building for the future or the squandering of resources and opportunities for immediate bottom line profits.

The focus here is to embrace the protection of our environment and to identify issues for eco-intelligent management, and on peacebuilding through business, where we find the intersection of the two. No longer just pioneering into new territories for growth and expansion, responsible business leaders need to pledge our vision to embody the proactive spirit of Bioneers, with which we co-create new solutions for environmental crisis and sensibly interacting with social and economic factors. Pivotal to this quest is the ability to manifest sustainable environmental and peace practices in the projects we undertake, and to demonstrate the pragmatism of planetary sustainability as a natural evolution of business leadership business in the 21st century.

Sigma International’s call to action:
  • Promote and organize sustainable environment and peace conferences in both US and China
  • Demonstrate sustainable practices and peace building for businesses and industries
  • Focus awareness on the global responsibility of leaders in business, technology and politics
  • Lead community building practices within business and implement its pragmatism
  • Help re-organize businesses by involving senior management in the design of eco-intelligent products and processes
  • Engage with the United Nations Global Compact and other significant peace building and “green” initiatives
  • Cultural and business exchanges to address the following:
  • The true and greater purpose and role of business in the 21st century
  • Emphasis in ecological wisdom, non-violent communication, community-based economics and diversity based leadership
  • Crucial steps in integrating environment, peace and business as part of our primary focus
  • Share existing models of environmental projects and Peace Building through Business
  • Focus on areas of good governance, energy efficiency system, clean air and water, healthcare, poverty alleviation, environmental conservation in collaboration with economic development
  • Win-win business relationships and long-lasting trust through peaceful strategies
  • The strength of our team:
  • Our Global Project Director Irene Kai has been a long time supporter of peace initiatives. Her inspiring Peace Dove painting was chosen by the United Nations in 2006 and is now displayed in the New York United Nations building which is used around the world as the symbol of the International Day of Peace.
  • Our Global Relations Director David Wick was one of the pioneers who had helped launch the United Nations NGO, Pathways to Peace, where he co-founded the visionary project: Peace Within Organizations. He has been involved for over fifteen years in facilitating seminars and symposiums on “inquiry into Peace Building through Business”.
  • Our Global Planning Director Jacqueline Sa has had years of successful business practices in multi-cultural situations where she harmonizes the way of the collective structural mind-set of the East and the individualistic, action-orientation of the West. She has an inherent wisdom to manifest a merging model of the Chinese circular mind intersecting with the Western linear mind that is fused into active meditation of pragmatic applications in business.
  •
In spite of the current struggles through pollutions, lopsided population growth, cheap labor that suffocates the spirit and over-constructions in its way to super-industrialization, there is an urgent, unquenchable yearning in China and its people to return to the Tao. This is an inherent wisdom and underpinning of their genetics, that is at the core of this community-centered culture who will gradually move back toward a humanity which resists ecological corruption and oppression of one another.

The clarity of heaven prevents its falling,
The firmness of earth prevents its splitting.
The strength of the spirit prevents its being consumed,
The fullness of the valley prevents its running dry?
The leadership of wise people prevents the downfall of the country.

    Lao Tsu
The Tao Te Ching, chapter 39

Real Peace will require fundamental transformations of our own thinking, our organizations, and our whole network of institutions. Because of its central place in modern society, business will be at the heart of that metamorphosis – either as part of the problem or as a force for creative changes.
